The road to spring is paved with unexpected ice storms, freezes and other winter annoyances. As long as I can remember those final unwelcome cold fronts often thwart the expected relief from the cold for a few more weeks. Thus, I can never safely store my winter attire at the end of March just in case winter refuses to quietly concede to the warmth of spring. For me, the only thing worse than alternating between winter and spring attire is pining over my favorite spring pieces, knowing I won’t be able to wear them for another month. Dramatic? I know. But you know the feeling. You finally think you have the opportunity to wear that awesome dress that you’ve been dying to strut in for a month, only to look at your weather app and find out that you have another week of wintry mix-days. Seriously?
If you are like me, you don’t like anything standing between you and your threads. Luckily, I’ve recently gotten over my fear of turtlenecks and now my black turtleneck serves as the perfect transition piece to layer my pretty spring dresses over. The neutrality of the black turtleneck makes it a great in-between season piece. It’s easily paired with vibrant colors for those who aren’t into contrasting colors. Of course there’s nothing wrong with color contrasts, but I’m finding myself to be more and more of one of those people who just loves basics.
Below I’ve styled my black turtle neck with a vibrant blue dress (one of my favorite dresses) and sparkly heels. Because who doesn’t love sparkle? The gold zipper detail on the back of this dress is what had me at hello.
This golden zipper is everything!
I love these sparkly shoes!
