I’ve recently noticed that black has officially taken over my wardrobe. I remember scolding a friend of mine 6 years ago about her all-black all-the-time outfits. First of all, rude, who tells people to wear more color? Second, I now completely concur with her response at the time that black makes everything easy. To make it clear, I love colorful bold pieces just as much as the next person. However, I have discovered the proportion of one’s collection of bold pieces is correlated to the proportion of time one spends agonizing over what to wear. Because as beautiful as those red, gold studded pair of pants are, they really aren’t the best compliment to other loud things in your closet. Also, once you wear your gold studded red pants this week, they are done; black skinnys on the other hand…not so much.
These days I’m content with having a few daring pieces in my closet and relying on my predominantly neutral, with a healthy dose of black closet to carry me through the days. Especially for the days when waking up feels like a feat, let alone perusing through a jig saw puzzle of a closet. Nope, I’m fine with those days being over. Now I know what you’re thinking, “where’s the fun in that?” Okay, just because a significant portion of my closet is black, doesn’t mean I’m clad in all black every day. Also, when I do wear black I find ways to add some umph with accessories. Here are my tips for wearing all black.
Bright accessories are your friend.
A bright colored shoe breaks up a neutral look beautifully and creates a focal point. In this case, the mint shoe is the star of the outfit. Additionally, the front slit on the pencil skirt contrasts the preppy sweater layered button front top illustrating that basics can be fun too.
Raid your jewelry box
If your wardrobe is mostly neutral like mine, invest in a lot of jewelry. The rose gold earrings, necklace and gold buckle adds some rock star glam to this look.
Go for it!
All black makes a statement. Especially when one of the pieces has a fun detail. The skirt’s belt tied in a bow adds some whimsicality to this look.
